YOUTH SERVICE: Oregon Food Bank

Join us for our holiday service project at Oregon Food Bank. We'll be repacking and labeling bulk dry food at the Volunteer Action Center. It's super fun! Note - this session is in the morning.

IMPORTANT!
We have 10 spots reserved. I'll need to know a week before the event (11/25) if you're coming or not for sure so I can enter all the names into the roster. They're super picky about that! Otherwise, you can't volunteer :(

WHAT TO WEAR:
• Shoes must have closed toes and heels (no sandals, clogs, mules or high heels).
• Shirts with sleeves are required. Tank tops are not allowed.
• Temperatures in the volunteer areas can vary. Layers are recommended.

WHAT NOT TO BRING:
• Your cold or open wounds. If you have cold symptoms or open wounds, you will not be permitted to work.
• Lockers are available for personal items, but are unsecured. Please leave valuables at home or lock in your car.

RSVP to Jillianne

YOUTH SERVICE: Blanchet House

Yeah! We get to volunteer at Blanchet House - our favorite from City Camp this summer. But since we're doing lunch service instead of breakfast service, we can sleep in :) The kids were surprised with how much dignity the meal was served with. It was a huge contrast from The Portland Rescue Mission.

We'll be eating lunch after all the members are served. Last time around we had a very delicous meal. Note, we only have space for 5 volunteers this time around, so first-come-first-serve. This is a Friday, but it is Veteran's Day so there is no school.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: The job assignments we have available to our volunteers are as follows, Cooks Helper (plating the food) Food Server (bringing the food out to the guests) Busser (clearing the tables of dirty plates and cups) Beverages (keeping the coffee, water and/or juice filled).

WHAT TO WEAR: Anyone with hair below the shoulders must have it back in a hair tie. No open toed shoes, short shorts, half shirts, mini-skirts, or shirts with exposed armpits. Short sleeved shirts are fine.

Middle School City Camp 2017: Justice Matters

Service. Slides. Skittles. Slillyness. Slumber Party. This will definitely be the highlight of your summer! We’ve partnered with 7-8 churches in Oregon to show God’s love to our Portland Community. Each morning we’ll break into groups and serve at a variety of non-profits in Portland. We’ll meet back up each afternoon and visit a new swimming hole each afternoon. We’ll finish each evening with games, God’s Word and gabbing.

WHEN: Sunday, July 30 – Thursday, August 3, 2017. Will begin after dinner on Sunday and conclude after breakfast on Thursday.

THEME: "Justice Matters." Our main focus scripture for the week will be the story of the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8.

HOST LOCATION: First Presbyterian Church (1200 SW Alder St. Portland, OR 97205). They have an amazing commercial kitchen, tons of bathrooms and multiple floors so boys and girls will sleep on seperate floors.

COST: $175/participant. We’ll be doing several fundraisers to off-set the cost for families that need financial assistance. Let’s work together if finances are a challenge. We want you to be there!

WHAT TO BRING: Sleeping mats/air mattresses, sleeping bag, pillows, extra clothes, toiletries, towel, swim clothes, bible.

WHO TO BRING: Your friends. It doesn’t matter if they’re Christian or not. They’ll have a blast and know they’re making a positive difference.

DEADLINES: $100 non-refundable deposit due per youth by Sunday, March 26th (Make checks out to Intown Church and hand them to Jillianne). The remaining balance is due by Sunday, June 18th (minus any fundraising).

NEEDS: We need an adult male chaperone willing to serve all four days to help us drive our students to each location (or at least 2 days and we can split it). We could also use a couple high school youth leaders who want to help serve and plan some silly games.

Note, pick-up and drop-off times may be modified as we get closer to the event (+/- ~1 hour).

We'll meet at Intown at 9:45AM on Wednesday morning and head to Twin Rocks Camp where we'll eat lunch and prepare to pamper the parents for a couple hours. If the weather is nice, we'll plan on spending an hour or so exploring the beach and then head back to Portland. Bring a couple dollars for dinner as we'll likely stop on the way home. We'll meet back at Intown at approximately 7:30 PM. RSVP to Jillianne (jillianne@intownchurch.org/503-679-4331) so we can coordinate transportation.
